The online casino GoldenPalace.com announced on August 21st that it would sponsor a series of five fights of three rounds apiece between Boll and hand-picked adversaries titled, fittingly, Raging Boll. To be eligible, critics must had written at least two negative articles about Boll in 2005. He was in the opinion that discussion on the Internet about him was full of hate and a lot of times went beyond normal reviews and normal talk about a director. “There are a lot of reviewers, they talk about the bad press I get and that is also because of the Internet geeks,” Boll said. “On the message boards, you have, like, tons of people, they want to punish me kill me, grill me, shoot me.” He decided to give them an opportunity to back up their words.
Four of the fighters squared off with Uwe on September 23rd, 2006 in at the Edgewater Stage, The Plaza of nations, 750 Pacific Boulevard S., Vancouver, BC, Canada, with the first one getting his due slightly earlier in Malaga on September 5th. Boll was a member of the “Bayer Leverkusen” boxing club in Germany for 15 years whereas of his opponents none had any real boxing experience. Boll emerged victorious from all fives matches. The main event in Vancouver attracted a crowd of 600 people and was televised on the Internet.
The evening opened with young performers age 5 to 17, from Cobra Kia Academy performing a demonstration of martial arts. Celebrities attending the match were Zach Ward, Erick Avari, Kristanna Loken, Verne Troyer, Ralf Moeller & Lou Gossett Jr. Actor Michael Paré introduced Uwe Boll and his challengers.
After the fights Richard “Lowtax” Kyanka was the most bitter to have been Boll’s punching bag, accusing him of lying about getting training, boxing equipment and lessons. Jeff Sneider was throwing up and breathing oxygen from a mask. Chris Alexander found respect for Boll’s ability to self-promote, and Nelson Chance Minter applied for an internship with Boll’s crew, after apologizing for his harsh criticism saying Boll’s movies really weren’t as bad as he had claimed.

Lost by points. Boll went easy on him.
The promoter of the match (the person responsible for security and legality) hadn’t been informed that I had never been boxing in my life (they only told him he was in charge of organizing a boxing match). As soon as he learnt about this, he was scared and wanted to suspend the match. Luckily I managed to convince him not to do it (thanks to the aid of other boxers) because Uwe Boll had promised to go easy on me and that it was going to be a show, not a serious boxing match.

I feel great. I feel like a very angry German man punched me in the head repeatedly. He kept saying it was PR stunt and a joke, but then he comes on just ‘murderizing’ me. I want to have more kids someday, so I just said, ‘I’m not going to stay in here and keep getting punched in the head.’
Uwe said we would get training, boxing equipment, and lessons beforehand. None of us received any of this, which didn’t quite worry us at the time since he kept saying it was just a PR stunt and he wasn’t really going to box for real for serious blah blah blah. NEVER trust a German. Three of the guys didn’t even have cups to protect their balls; the only reason I had a cup was because my wife bought me one.
He told me it was just a joke, a public relations stunt. Then he started beating the crap out of my head. I think he’s a jerk. This might be PR but I don’t want to keep getting punched in the head.
Regardless, I don’t regret anything and think it was a real learning experience. For example, I learned Uwe Boll is a lying dickhead who makes shitbag films, and he deserves all the shit he gets from folks on the Internet.

I don’t think [Uwe Boll] has a clue what American audiences are interested in. To him it’s all shock value, and that might get you a career, but it won’t give you longevity and it won’t get you respect. Respect has to be earned and nothing Boll’s done in his career, including kicking the shit out of a bunch of defenseless film critics, has earned that respect.

I think I got him once in the face for Alone in the Dark and I got maybe one or two for BloodRayne. I have absolutely no regrets. This is the weirdest pop culture bizarre journalism stunt I’ve ever been involved in.
He is now a living, breathing pop icon. I was astonished at how much attention this got in the press. We’re talking everything from homegrown CBC, to international CNN, BBC Time US and on and on, overseas. I saw a Singapore newspaper was covering it. Everyone was covering it. It’s just so fascinating and odd. This guy, who is at one point just an obscure guy that internet nerdies love to hate, is now not quite a household name but on his way to becoming a notorious filmmaker. For better or worse.

Yes, it was a PR stunt, but we ALL knew it was a REAL boxing match. Not fake.

Backup boxer: Brooke Burgess
Brooke Burgess is the director, writer and producer of Sundance Film Festival 2003 award winner Broken Saints. Though he didn’t get to box Uwe Boll on September 23rd, the plan was for him to be the official replacement in case any of the critics were unable – or unwilling – to step into the squared circle. He left the venue after Boll allegedly used several illegal strikes in a sparring match with Burgess prior to the event. Claiming Boll didn’t pick him because he actually had some boxing experience as opposed to the other contenders, Burgess challenged the German director on his blog:
“This is not over, Dr Boll. You didn’t fight me. You didn’t beat me. Your only victory was one engineered in ambush – molded from hollow subterfuge. [...] Hear that sound? The clock is ticking, asshole… and not just on your career.”
On July 24, 2007, Uwe Boll asked BollBashers.com to release a recording of the sparring match in question. The video was edited by Til Schweiger, lead actor in Far Cry, who had happened upon Brooke Burgess’ comment on Bollbashers.com. In a counterstatement, Burgess says the video was purposely edited in a way that made him look bad by leaving out any of his hits scored in the first two rounds and by making a slip on wet cancas in round three look like a knockdown blow by Boll. Schweiger on the other hand claims Burgess didn’t land a single hit during the sparring match.
